hi i have a raised bluish lump on my gum/ lip. lump is hard but not painful. feels like it could be a blood clot from accidental biting of gum.

do i need to visit my gp to check it?

Lump: If there was a trauma to the mucosa and it heals within a week or so - assessment may not be required. If it is  not healing or is just a component of a number of symptoms - then assessment could be warranted.

Painful Lump: See your dentist asap as this sounds like a tooth that is abscessing; you do not want to leave an infection untreated. It can be easily treated with a root canal. If your dentist determines that it is not tooth related then referral to a specialist is in order.

Infection: You probably have an infection.  It will not go away until you either have the infection drained or go on antibiotics or both.  If it is a tooth infection it will need either a root canal or extraction.

Lumps: The absence of pain does not always indicate the absence of a problem. Many chronic infections lie dormant until one day....Kaboom: severe pain and swelling. That is not not say that that's what you have. See a dentist to evaluate what you see and feel (and what you cannot see and feel).
