i had athroscopic knee surgery, acl recons. and meniscus 5days ago. ankle is now swollen and bruised, i believe hematoma. it is very painful. danger?

Not generally: It is hard to say that there is no danger here. Bruising and swelling around the ankle is possible after acl reconstruction, but is not the norm. It definitely reflects bleeding from somewhere. The acl tunnel in the front of the leg can be a source of bleeding. Bleeding that starts in the back of the knee is much less typical and warrants a visit to your surgeon, especially with the "very painful".

i fell yesterday and my right knee is swollen bruised and hot to touch. i can walk on it but is painful?

You may: be describing a sub-patella BURSITIS (also called "housemaid's knee" (from washing floors on the hands and knees a VERY VERY OLD job description!!!!)
In any case a "Hands On" examination is necessary!

Meantime apply ICE and ELEVATE!

Ice for 48 hrs.: At a minimum, you have a contusion. RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) is standard first-line treatment. Oral anti-inflammatories like Aleve (naproxen) or Advil will help, but can increase bleeding. If the pain and swelling does not resolve in 1-2 weeks or if there is locking or giving out, you need to see an orthopedic surgeon.

Go to ER now: There is a high probability that you have developed an infection in the knee joint. This could lead to septic arthritis and major complications if not treated in time. Go to ER immediately as you may need IV antibiotics and possibly a joint washout

You certainly could: as everything is a little weaker while healing from surgery.  You need to get ice on it, get it up, put a firm bandage around it and see a doctor (ideally your surgeon) soon to see what's going on and what can be done.  Good luck!

Woulda, shoulda.: I think the most prudent thing for you to do right now is to  your physician. Swelling and pain are two symptoms of a possible developing phlebitis or infection. You should not have a wait and see attitude, but rather attend to this quickly to remove all doubt.
