Ice for 48 hrs.: At a minimum, you have a contusion. RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) is standard first-line treatment. Oral anti-inflammatories like Aleve (naproxen) or Advil will help, but can increase bleeding. If the pain and swelling does not resolve in 1-2 weeks or if there is locking or giving out, you need to see an orthopedic surgeon.
