hi i have a white and yellow coating on the back of my tongue and have halitosis. i have tried brushing with a tongue scraper and using sea salt but it seems to have only made things worse. do you have any advice on how to get rid off the bad smell?

: Good oral hygiene is the best way. That means a healthy diet and brushing and flossing. If you are on certain medications, eating spicey foods ,have a dry mouth causing bacteria to grow, all these can contribute to halitosis. Have your dentist provide you with an anti-bacterial solution to rinse with. Do you have a reflux problem? Do you smoke?

the back of my tongue is stained yellow, with a whitish coating as well only on the back. i have terrible acid reflux, could that be the reason?

It's possible...: ...To get a coating on the tongue as a sign of severe acid reflux. However, there are many other reasons why your tongue could have an appearance of a coating.  To sort it out, you should see your primary doctor or a gastroenterologist. In the mean time, try adding liquid or chewable antacids to your current anti-reflux regimen, while you are waiting for your appointment. Good luck.

i have red/white bumps on the back of my tongue with some white coating. also yellow coating in middle of tongue with few bleeding taste buds.

Tongue : Are they bleeding or just very red? All this could be normal unless there is bleeding but just have a medical professional exam it for reassurance

Many causes???: Hard to determine without a thorough history and exam.  Has this occurred before. Meds, supplements, trauma, etc., may cause.  If in doubt and if it persists, see a dr. And/or a dentist.

Probably normal: Probably just normal and nothing to be concerned about.  If you want to be 100% sure about that, you will have to have your dentist actually take a look at it.

It's plaque: Some people have more of it than others.  Nothing abnormal.  Just make sure you are brushing your tongue as well as part of your daily hygiene regimen.  If its of concern get evaluated by your physician or dentist.  Hope this helps.

Do not worry: What you described is normal.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Nonspecific: Tongue coating is very nonspecific and sometimes related to digestive issues, but on many occasions there  is no pathology. I wouldn't be concerned about it if you have no symptoms. Use your toothbrush to wipe it away.  Your dentist may have more advice for you.

Maybe thrush(fungus): The tongue is known to have many variations with pigmenting, size, appearance, &amp; not always due to disease. Causes of tongue that looks patchy include: lichen planus (responds to steroids), white sponge nevus (familial, benign, permanent), smoker's leukoplakia (2% risk of cancer, needs biopsy), hairy leukoplakia (due to epsteinbarr virus), warts (due to papillomavirus), "thrush" (rx antifungals).
