Loosen tmj: Best way to do this is with moist heat...Not a heating pad...I recommend a wet washcloth. Hold it over the TMJ for 5-10 minutes 3-4 times a day. You will feel things loosen up.

Yes: I recommend that you find a dentist with extensive training and experience treating patients with tmd	mjoint problems. Most dentists actually have little or no training in this area and merely fabricate a night guard.  Research dentists in your area. Your own dentist might be able to refer you to one.

Cavities, abscess,: Depends where the pain is: upper, lower, all over or in one spot. Does it hurt all the time or just when you chew? Could be a cavity, malocclusion, TMJ syndrome, abscess. See your dentist.

Maybe: Only way to know is to try it. But don't give up after only one treatment. And i would also get more than one opinion before jumping into jaw manipulation. I am not a fan of scraping bone against bone before other options are tried.

Unclear question: TMJ = Temporo-mandibular joint. It is not a disease, we all have two of these.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

The short answer: Tmj refers to the joint where the lower jaw articulates with the upper jaw, this stands for temporomandibular joint. It is basically a ball sitting in a concavity with a cartridge donut between them.  In some patients issues can occur in the joint leading to chronic or acute pain this can be caused by arthritis to the joint, clenching or grinding teeth or other causes. Treatment can help w comfort.

Evaluation: Why are you eating on just your left side? is there a problem with your right side? Are teeth missing? Is it a habit?  your condition needs to be evaluated by a local dentist to determine the cause of your problem... only then can a treatment be determined. All the best.
