From the back flat (supine) position you can do crunches and add a slight twist or touch elbows to knees to vary the theme.  Planks (see image- torso/back straight with gut tensed) are a great means of toning your core muscles from the supine, prone, or sideways facing.

This softens the hard fat (visceral) to soft fat, drink water, decrease alcohol, and exercise 150minutes/week including core exercise.

No set number: The more you do the better.  You might only be able to do 20 today but 50 in a month.  The more you work them out the more you should be able to do.  Don't put all of your ab exercise energy into crunches though.  Combine it with leg raises, obliques, and other abdominal exercises to work out all your abs.
