we removed a tick from our daughter almost 2 weeks ago. it was attached, but not engorged. no rash, no other symptoms. today it looks like a pimple?

Mgt: There may be a secondary staph infection at the site. I would suggest applying a topical antibiotic ointment but if there is any worsening or if it persists, please see your PCP.

found tick on back of scalp, removed non-engorged tick. now has tender pump where tick was removed. live in florida should i see doctor for antibiotic?

Make an appointment.: It probably is not a problem, especially if the tick is not small, like the deer tick thtat can carry lyme disease.  It might do good to put antibiotic ointment on it.  If it does not go away or becomes a big rash or you still are concerned, a quick visit to the doctor, preferably with the tick if you still have it, is the best thing to do.

Tick Bite: Definitely see your doctor for follow-up. CDC recommends two-step testing.  First step: EIA (enzyme immunoassay). If the EIA is negative, no further testing of the specimen. If the EIA is positive or possible, then a “Western blot” test is ordered. If ill 30 days, only the IgG blot is done. A positive diagnosis requires positive for both EIA and blot

Tick Removal: Don't remove ticks with a lit cigarette. The heat may cause release of infectious materials into your skin.  Examine visually to ensure that mouthparts or head are no longer embedded.

Can transmit illness: A tick doesn't have to be engorged to transmit infections; being engorged means it was attached long enough to feed on you but it doesn't have to be on that long to transmit Lyme, Babesia, Bartonella,Anaplasma etc.
I strongly advise finding a Lyme-literate Dr. for evaluation and treatment.

Adequate doses of doxycycline can prevent Lyme but you may need other Rx too.

Tick unlikely: Ticks don't get under the skin. Something else is causing whatever you have. See a doctor for proper diagnosis.

No: If part of the head or any mouth parts of the tick remain in the skin after removal of the body, these should be left alone as they will be expelled on their own. If you try to remove these parts, significant skin trauma may result.

: The fact that the tick is engorged means it has spent enough time to feed. The egg laid on the skin is not the problem as much as what could be germs that could have been regurgitated into the blood vessels during the process of feeding. They are also likely to stool during the process of feeding on the skin.

Tick granuloma: This may be a tick granuloma.  It is not a real health problem. If bothered by it, a dermatologist or family physician can evaluate.
