i find it difficult to stop eating and never seem to feel full. i eat healthy and hike/walk daily but am still overweight due to overeating. advice?

Change the content: Overeating is a common problem. Try changing what you eat, before trying to change how much you eat. Get rid of all starchy carbohydrates (bread, pasta, rice, cereals). Eat as many fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and lean protein you would like. Get one hour of exercise daily. Once you begin eating the right things, typically your body won't crave the volume. Then, decrease quantity.

To lose: 20 pounds you have to burn off 70,000 calories that you don't eat. That takes a long time. A good steady weight loss of 1/2 to one pound/week is fantastic.

Sitting with weight: Hi nanbeam, yes having some excess weight in the lower part of your body can cause some discomfort because of the sedentary nature of being in a chair for long periods of time.  If possible, simply by getting up and walking around a little every 90 minutes or so: go to the water cooler, talk to colleague, walk outside for some fresh air, can make a difference in your mood, day, and burn calories.

You can do something: About it!  eat healthfully ; be physically active. Aim for 7.5 to 8 hrs of sleep / night. Hydrate w at least 64 oz of water / day. Calories burned must &gt; calories consumed. Charts: Overweight is defined as having a bmi of 25-30 while obese is having a bmi over 30.  Bmi is a calculation based on your height and weight.  It is not perfect but a very good general guideline for most people to go by ( football athlete with lots of muscle mass may be technically "obese" on the charts while not actually having too much body fat).

Change your life: At the most basic level dieting takes no time or money. You can choose to eat less. I am sure you are busy, we all are. Do you have anything more important than your life? We each have 24 hours per day. Find a way to demand that you have earned the right to spend 1 of those hours each day to keep you alive. Would a check for $1million convince you?  Would a funeral convince you? What will it take?

Holistic approach: A doc, coach, or clinical psychologist can help you draw up a plan of action to include exercise, food plan, and stress management.  This can be adjusted weekly as needed.  Focus on your health more than on the number on the scale.  There are lots of good books out there.  Go slow and steady.  Peace and good health.

Go online and look for "Vegan" articles. Go through as many as you can tolerate and after a short while you will feel great and tell others - they will have noticed your new size, shape and style.

Overweight: It has its flaws but to my knowledge the gold standard measurement out there right now is the BMI (Body Mass Index).  Using this chart can help you determine if you are overweight or not.  In my opinion it doesn't account for muscle mass very well.  Ultimately, it's using the chart and discussing your results with your PCP.
