10 pounds a week: Despite what you hear on the TV, that is too much to lose in a week.
There are many articles available about diet and weight control. Take your time reading them and let me know if you still have concerns.

Not good: The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to go slow. There are diet plans out there that are extremely low calorie that may help you achieve your goal, but i woild not recommend it,  as they not not sustainable.

First - would: ask if you are over-weight? If you have normal weight - losing just to be skinny is often not the best idea. Second - concerned that you want to lose this much weight over such a brief period of time.  If weight loss indicated would not recommend more than 2 pound per week average (except when sanctioned by your doctor).

Depends: Weight loss depends on calories eaten and burned. The number if steps needed depends on how much you eat. As an example (i don't recommend this!) you could walk a million steps and burn 10, 000 calories but you'll gain weight if you eat 10, 100 calories a day. On the flip side you could lose weight without moving if you fast. The best weight loss plans include a sensible diet ; exercise.

Bad Idea: If you cut your calories this low - it will put you into semi-starvation and your metabolic rate will drop. You will burn more muscle than fat. Over time - your will put weight back on quickly when you start eating more again.

Maybe nothing.: By throwing yourself into starvation mode, you decrease your metabolic rate, lose mostly muscle and end up regaining weight very fast. Not a good idea.

Weight loss: Yes, that's possible with limiting dietary intake. Some supplements to aid this include garcinia, among others.

Weight loss claims: When one of the thousands of weight loss products puts out an ad claiming a patient will lose 5 or more pounds in one week, a doctor usually thinks "pounds sterling" or "British pounds", as in money. It's marketing. It's advertising. To lose &gt; 5 pounds a week (it would be fat plus its related water), one can exercise all day and limit intake to 1000 calories a day... but it is not healthy to do.

Try avoiding Carbs: An Atkins or South Beach type of diet, avoiding Carbohydrates and eating more protein and fats for a month may help to shed away the extra pounds!
Even better with exercise like walking or jogging!

ive been working out (boxing and pilates), as well as walking for 3 weeks. ive always had a very poor metabolism (or at least difficulty losing weight), but i havent lost even one pound. i am fine with slow progress, but not zero progress. my concern is that i might not be taking in enough calories for my size. im 56 and 291 pounds. ive been eating between 950-1100 calories a day. thanks for your help.

Tips: Weight loss follows a simple equation. Calories in- calories out= weight change. Try increasing the amount of Cardio exercise that you are doing daily versus just weightlifting/pilates. There are websites online that can help you calculate what your heart rate should be for maximal fat burning. Also, try decreasing salt/crbs in your diet so that you are not retaining water/increasing lean protein
