Exercise, good diet.: This "good" cholesterol is increased by activity like exercise, and an active lifestyle.  A balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables can also help by increasing fiber in the diet.  Mild to moderate alcohol intake raises levels as well.

Vigorous exercise: Vigorous exercise and losing about 10% of your body weight will help. You may wish to start slowly, but need to work up to vigorous exercise at least 30 minutes a day for 5-6 days a week. Alcohol intake may help, but I do not recommend it.

You're okay: This stuff is mostly genetic and by no means is this a death sentence. The lethal cholesterol problems are the very-high LDL stuff and even they can be managed. Here's what you can do -- you're still a young woman, join a fitness group, increase your level of aerobic exercise by finding something you actually like to do, eat sensibly (choices aren't the key) and expect a normal lifespan.

Exercise both lowers LDL and raises hdl. If you smoke, stopping smoking also can lower LDL and raise hdl.
