Obviously you have -: -symptoms, so if the trouble is locking, giving way, the findings indicate a mechanical problem in the knee. You need to follow the advice of your orthopedic surgeon who is familiar with your case, especially if you have treated with him/her for a while. The surgery is only driven by your symptoms. The thing to remember is there is no orth prob so severe that it can't be made worse by surgery.

my knee got twisted. mri says "patchy tear at posterior horn of medial meniscus, shape and contour preserved. grade ii chondromalacia of patella. grade ii mcl". as per doc, i'm resting now. could someone explain more on this? anything to be worried?

: Your Dr who knows you and has seen the MRI is the best one to answer the question.  do not know for sure what Greade II MCL means in Hong Kong. Nevet use abbreviations in medicine. They can be deadly.

??: Ok so what is the ?  The above findings are kind of common esp is somebody our age ( I am ~ 65.5)
 it is possible that arthroscopy may help  but as with all surg there is some risk that it may not 
these are findings of early osteoarthritis and unfortunately the tend to get gradually worse over time / please discuss with your orthopedic surgeon.

: First, you describe wear and tear "chondromalacia", and an injury to at least one meniscus.  Would consult with an orthopedic surgeon.  Surgery is not always the approach, as a steroid injection and a series of hyaluronic acid injections might be preferred approaches.  Physical therapy definitely should be commenced.

: An orthopedic surgeon might choose a cortisone injection, or even hyaluronic acid.  Physical therapy might be an initial approach.  Would not anticipate need for surgery based upon your description.  Discuss at length with an orthopedist who specializes in knees.

Absolutely: Nonoperative treatments like strengthening and therapy are always the first choice before surgery.  When you have given these a real effort, and are still bothered by your complaints, then the only real option to get better may be to have the 20 min scope procedure and move on.  Give it an honest try and then decide if surgery is right for you.

These conditions -: -have no relationship 2 Ur bruising , as they R within the knee capsule. If bruising is of major concern, start by Cing Ur PCP, and have lab studies.
