i got tested for allergies and the most prominent reaction of the panel was wheat. how do i change my diet to avoid wheat so i can feel better?

May not: If you are highly allergic to grass pollen, you may end up with a strongly positive reaction to  wheat which may or may not cause you any problem  people on a gluten-free diet is mostly on a wheat-free diet but you should have a food challenge test at your allergist to ascertain that this is your problem because wheat-free products are not inexpensive and avoidance is not that easy.

No reason: In both cases potato can be included. There is no relation of potato to wheat. Potato is not a grain.

Too much is bad: Too much wheat is bad for everybody. There is also a small percentage of people that ate highly allergic to glutens and gliadins. These people must avoid all wheat. So yes, this is somewhat a fad.

Accepted Answer

No wheat, no dairy: Some people have problems with the protein in wheat called gluten.  Others just need to cut down on their intake of simple carbohydrates.  Some people can't digest the sugar called lactose in milk.  Others don't tolerate the milk protein.  For most people the quantity is what's important.  Whole wheat is better than plain white. And milk for people &gt;2 years old should be 1% or skim.

i'm just wondering, if you cut wheat from your diet do you actually lose any weight?

Lose wheat & weight: Wheat is digested rapidly to simple sugar.  Your blood sugar goes up then down.  You get hungry quickly.  If you replace the wheat with something more substantial and you reduce your total calorie intake, you will lose weight.  If you replace wheat with avocados and ice cream, you won't.

Add exercise: Exercising for at least 30 minutes per day will help you to burn more calories.  Keep to your diet.

Whoe foods: Eat adequate amounts of protein, lots of organic vegetables, food fats such as coconut oil, and use complex carbohydrates such as organic sweet potatoes, whole grain quinoa, amaranth, wild rice, etc.

Odd post: Lactose intolerance is found in 1/4 of older children &amp; adults. Avoiding lactose containing foods/drinks will avoid symptoms. There is no "seed" intolerance that I know of. Wheat is composed of many molecules including gluten, found in many grains. Intolerance can be simple or an immune issue called celiac disease. A clarification of your terms is important to provide any reasoned response.

Balanced diet: The best diet is patient specific, depending on age, activity level and medical history. There are many grains to eat other than wheat and rice, however, a specific recommendation should be made by a physician or nutritionist who has your complete history available.
