What Kind?: Protein shakes are not recommended in people younger than 18 years of age.  Neither are energy drinks.  If you want to boost your protein intake you can do it naturally with yogurt, nuts/nut butters, lentils/legumes, whole grains, and lean meats/fish. Be sure to eat a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in the mix.

Your nutrition plan: sounds fine but it would be best to see a nutritionist so that the plan can be tailor made to fit your needs.  Many over the counter multivitamins are weak.  A professional can tell you which brand is best in your local area.  Look more for higher doses of each vitamin w/in the mulitvit rather than a longer list of ingredients.  Peace and good health.

Protein and Exercise: This is a good question.  Protein shakes help you build muscle when you are actively participating in a weight training program.  Pre-workout these should probably include good sources of electrolytes and some carbs so that you can get the immediate energy to burn while you push yourself to the limits of muscle fatigue.

No iodine: The only dietary restriction for most people with mildly high thyroid levels is to avoid excess iodine, typically found in seaweed or kelp.  Whey protein is derived from milk products and does not have excess iodine, so it is safe.

Probably fine: He is probably fine. If it persists take him to the family doctor. A muscle strain is more common than a kidney infection from protein shakes.

Yes, no problem: If your hypothyroidism is being properly treated you'll have normal levels of thyroid hormone & thus have the same levels of thyroid as a normal person & you can function normally. But many just on levothyroxine don't have adequate t3; ask your doctor to check your free t3; if not in the upper half of the normal range you may benefit from liothyronine (cytomel) as well.
