do lungs show in thoracic mri?

Accepted Answer

No: Air containing lungs are not visible though some free fluid in the chest may sometimes be seen. The way the study is performed most of the middle and front of the chest is excluded from view.

when lungs are hyperinflated, how do they change? i had a thoracic ct and x-ray and the x-ray tech said my lungs were long, but the ct didnt show anything, to my knowledge. could my lungs being longer have made my pft lung volume and rv wrong?

Accepted Answer

: The term hyper inflated is generally used when there appears to have been a deeper breath taken than usual or air is trapped during a process like asthma. I would not take a casual statement by an x-ray tech to mean anything specific. Discuss this with your treating doc.

what is the difference beteeen pa and ap latetal chest xray..which one shows the lungs as well.

Chest xray: The  pa is taken so that xray travels from the back toward the chest.  Ap is taken so that the xray travels from the chest toward the back.

Accepted Answer

To a degree: An ap (front to back) and lateral (self explanatory) chest xray displays a fairly good screening view of the lung,  ribs, scapula, diaphragm, parts of the spine and shoulder joints, but the resolution of lung tissue increases with ct scanning with contrast and mri.  The chest xray however gives enough detail to determine most conditions though perhaps not in the earliest stages.

i was wondering if mris provide a full scan of the body even if its been ordered to follow up on a particular issue. for instance if the mri was ordered to look at bladder would it show upper body images also in the chest area, lungs, etc?

: No. The ordering physician must order specific areas of the body to be studied. He/she has to list symptoms or the reason for the test or the insurance company or medicare will not pay for the study.

X-ray: It can show the bones of the chest , the size of the heart and pulmonary vessels,  aorta and possible lymphadenopathy to name a few. It can also show a hiatal hernia or possible dilated esophagus or enlarged thyroid.

Yes: A chest xray shows many of the lung diseases and abnormalities like infections, growths, enlargement of structures like lymph glands and heart, fluid collections, etc. However a chest cat scan shows even more details and picks up lesions in earlier stages.

Not sure: Not sure what your exact question is but a pa and lateral cxr will show many potential problems with the heart, lungs, and surrounding bones.

hi, can some please tell me what's the meaning of my x-ray result, test was done due to i am applying for work.( further follow-up chest radiograph since 1-8-2021, shows no change in the residual densities in both upper lungs. what does is means.?

Accepted Answer

: Apparently there were some dense areas in both lungs in the past. The densities could have been scars from a case of pneumonia or perhaps TB (tuberculosis) or some other illness.  If the dense areas had grown or changed, it would be more concerning for cancer, but that is not as likely since they are stable (unchanged).
