: Follow the instructions on the prescriptions because these three meds can be taken at the same time but may be on different schedules. Azithromycin is an antibiotic usually written to take once/day for 5 days. Prednisone can also be once a day but can also be prescribed 2 or 3 times a day in divided doses. The promethazine is for nausea and should only be taken if she's vomiting.

Probably safe but...: Dimetapp or other over-the-counter cough-cold medications are not recommended for younger children nowadays. Such meds were used very often in the past. That said, using small amounts under the guidance of one's own pediatrician should be safe to do. Taking the 3 medications in the correct doses, for no longer than the number of days recommended by one's doctor, should be safe.

i have an autistic 6 year old son and i've noticed when he takes zithromax, his autistic symptoms almost disappear. could his autism be an infection?

Not infection: There is a condition called pandas or pans that is immune-mediated and part of the treatment is using antibiotics. Some of these kids manifest  "autistic-like" behaviors that subside when given antibiotics. There is a theory that autism may be immune-mediated as well. Best to see a neurologist or pediatrician who treats pans/autism and try www.Pandasnetwork.Org as well.

5 day course: Your physician may have noted a possible bacterial infection ( ear infection, pneumonia). Treat his fever, continue the antibiotics and if there is respiratory distress, please see the acute care center. 
Provide hydration and typically the viral illness will resolve in 10-14 days.
