Amoxicillin: Generally 500mg every 8 hours till gone. Don't miss a dose. Don't take with meals, best one hour before or one hour after a meal if it happens to be close to the 8th hour. 7-10 day course generally. Any hives/rash/breathing problems call your doctor immediately.

tooth infection: Amoxicillin may help indirectly with pain.  As the infection subsides and swelling goes down pain should also gradually diminish. A pain medication is usually prescribed to be taken along with the antibiotic.  This combination should help a lot.  Finish up with needed treatment or the pain will return.

No specific time: Usually you should start to feel a difference after the first couple of days depending on the severity of the infection.  Usually a 10 day course of Amoxicillin is recommended.

It won't help: To take a higher dose than was prescribed, although if you already did so it won't hurt you either.  The important thing is to take until all of your prescription is gone.  If pain is the problem, ask the dr/dentist for a pain prescription.  Good luck!

Perhaps never: If the infection is mild and no abscess has formed it should respond very quickly, assuming that the bacteria causing the infection are sensitive to Amoxicillin (which is quite likely).  If more than 48 hrs have passed without improvement strongly suggest you go back to the dentist for reassessment.

Assuming you: Are not allergic to the penicillin family of antibiotics, you should have little concern with the prescribed medication, even w pregnancy. Check with your ob, but i'm sure it's probably ok.

i'm supposed to take one hydrocodone every 4-6 hours, but pain persists.

What to do: Call the dentist first thing tomorrow morning and discuss what to do. Was the cause of the infection addressed? Merely taking antibiotics will not resolve the problem. Some patients find 600mg Ibuprofen along with 300mg Acetaminophen works as well or actually even better than Hydrocodone. Or you can supplement the Hydrocodone with some Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen meanwhile.

: No, it should work. However, if you do not see any improvement in 48-72 hours then the antibiotic should be changed. Good luck.

See doctor: Don't guess at the diagnosis or best treatment. Many or most bacteria causing UTI are resistant to amoxicillin and it won't work. Other conditions can cause the same symptoms, especially genital infectios like STDs (if at risk). And the wrong antibiotic can interfere with proper diagnosis later. See your doctor, or a public health, planned parenthood, or urgent care clinic ASAP. Good luck!
