Increased chance : There is an increased risk of seizures after significant head trauma.  You should see a neurologist and have an eeg and possibly mri.  Concussion can  lead to cellular level damage that takes a long time to heal.  Drinking is not recommended during the process of healing. Neuropsychiatric testing may identify areas of impairment that will need to be accommodated until you heal.

So to do anything that could increase this risk is a scary thing. You could experiance a seizure from less alcohol withdrawal than someone who has never had a seizure, possibly even "moderate" amounts.

Good advice: I think the advice you are giving your friend is appropriate.  Alcohol can lower the seizure threshold and lead to more seizures.  It can also lead to aspiration if his stomach is full of contents.
