Depends: The residual itching and skin disturbance of scabies can take 6 or more weeks to heal. It is a body reaction to scabies fecal material deposited underneath the skin in their burrows.One time treatment with a good scabicide like permethrin 5% (left on 12 hrs))should be enough although re-treatment after 7 days is common. Repeat disease is common if re-exposed and develops quicker.

Itches: Scabies is very itchy at night and affects certain areas- wrist between fingers, genitals, ar pits, ankles and waist band. There are little raised bumps in these areas. Dry skin os mildly itchy.Scabies must be treated. Ot os contagious.

Yes: This medication can be combined with an oral steroid. Start with 1% hydrocortisone - mix a good portion with an eczema cream and spread over affected areas within 3 minutes after shower/bath. See your MD for alternative prescription strength creams if this is not helpful. Itch will stop when the body absorbs the dead mite from the skin.

Not scabies: You say you had scabies twice. Then you know it is not a "bite" that you remove with tweezers. TICK??? Scabies makes you itch all over, especially in bed, and your boyfriend will have it also.

Hard to be sure: Treatments are directed primarily at killing the scabies mites. The rash is mostly an allergic reaction to debris left behind in the tracts/burrows where the mites moved under the skin surface.It can take time for the  skin to heal. A mild OTC steroid cream often helps with healing. Re-treatment is also sometimes needed.

5% permethrin cream: This cream is available by prescription and can be used in children as young as 2 months.  The cream should be massaged into the skin from scalp to legs and left on overnight, rinsed off in the morning.  All household contacts should be treated.  Then wash all your clothing and bedding in hot water.  You may need to repeat the cream in 1 week if itching persists.

Some basics: The scabies mite is passed by direct contact. We see it pass from kid to kid sometimes if they play in close proximity. Wrestlers, bed partners, etc. have the type of contact that would lead to transfer. The activities you cite are unlikely if ever to transfer this mite. Diagnosis is based on a direct exam.

: If you truly have scabies { particular itching and rash }, you should be treated along with all of your current contacts in your home as well as washing thoroughly all your bedding and clothing .This would include your couch and other areas of exposure in your home. Also, the topical  treatment should be applied head to toes for 24 hrs to be of the most benefit.  Those exposed treated at same time

Scabies: Scabies in people is cause by a mite called Sacroptes Scabieivar. Hominis.Scabies looks like lines of burrows on skin made w little mounds or blisters. They cause itching which is often worse at night. Although they can be anywhere on skin they like going into skin folds (waistline, axilla, breasts, between fingers, feet, wrists, knees,  elbows,buttocks &amp; genitalia. You aren't likely to see mites.
