Some basics: The scabies mite is passed by direct contact. We see it pass from kid to kid sometimes if they play in close proximity. Wrestlers, bed partners, etc. have the type of contact that would lead to transfer. The activities you cite are unlikely if ever to transfer this mite. Diagnosis is based on a direct exam.

Scabies concerns: Scabies is a contagious disease spread by mites (Sarcoptes Scabiei) that burrows into the skin and lays eggs. Symptoms of scabies can include very thin lines noted on the skin, rash between the finger, sores from scratching and itching which is worse at night. It is spread from direct contact or contact with contaminated items.
