i have had prostatitis (diagnosed)i was on cipro for 3 weeks prescribed by my primary then urologist put me on bactrim and its been 12 days and i felt no symptoms for4 days and then the symptoms came back worse do i need stronger meds or wait longer?

Extended course : Sometimes an extended course of antibiotics may be necessary.   At the same time,  i usually recommend an anti inflammatory.  Bladder irrirritants like caffeine and spicy foods should be avoided as well.

Prostatitis : Prostatitis which persists beyond 4-6 weeks after initial therapy should be accurately characterizes as acute or chronic, bacterial or non-bacterial. These distinctions are important for prognosis and treatment. A urologist can help accurately characterize and appropriately treat your specific prostatitis.

Itis =Inflammation: If bacterial overgrowth Bactrim or cipro (ciprofloxacin) are effective treatments.   Most likey your own bacteria are out of normal check and something has overgrown.  Doesn't have to be a std causing it .  Some times certain bacteria don't respond to certain antibiotics...don't be concerned if you have to try something different

just finished flagly for c diff; i now have symptoms of prostatitis and my dr wants me to take doxycycline 100mg twice a day and vancomycin (250mg/4xday). is this necessary to prevent c diff again?

Post C Diff Rx: Your doctor is undoubtedly attempting to eradicate the prostatitis, not to prevent another outbreak of c. Difficile. Many cases of prostatitis are non-symptomatic, but it sound like yours is, so it is best to eradicate the infection.

Takes time. : Zyvox (linezolid)  is a good antibiotic  but your problem with prostrate will require a few days to settle. Hopefully in 3 to 5 days.   Other options for the treatment are similar other antibiotics which again will require some time.

1-2 weeks, but...: Should start to improve in 1-2 wk. But there are a few kinds of prostatitis. The most common isn't caused by any known infection. Antibiotics are often tried but may not help. True prostatitis is rare at age 22. Make sure your doctor understands the difference between prostatitis and nongonococcal urethritis, which is an STD. If NGU, cipro (ciprofloxacin) is a poor choice, and your partner(s) also need treatment.
