Is any one symptom diagnostic of prostatitis?

No: Prostatitis is diagnosed by clinical history and physical examination. Other tests are performed to help assist such urinalysis and blood tests. Since the symptoms are so variable, there is no 1 specific symptom or test to make the diagnosis.

Multiple symptoms: but a prostate exam, examination of prostatic fluid, urinary frequency, rectal pain, sexual pain can all be symtoms. PSA can be factitiously elevated and does not mean cancer; however, should be done along with a CBC.

See below: There is no “one” symptom diagnostic of “prostatitis”. It is a clinical diagnosis based on history, physical exam, and lab studies. Cause may be non-bacterial, non-infectious (most common) or bacterial. Either cause may be associated with discomfort/pain and lower urinary tract symptoms: urgency, frequency, burning. Acute bacterial prostatitis also associated with fever, chills, and abnormal U/A.
