Lymphadenopathy: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is an antibiotic combination that will treat some infections. The swollen lymph node is the body's reaction to an inflammation which may have been the infection you are treating, but how fast it recedes will have little to do with the treatment.

recently got hair braided,  lymph node on left side of neck swollen,  it happen once before with braids,  can i take some bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) or what you suggest ?

I would hold on abx: You likely have a little inflammation and the lymph node should resolve in a couple days.

i've taken bactrim for 8 days with no obvious side effects but now i have hives and i've had a swollen lymph node on my left side of my neck and i have been having periodic nerve pain. please, any suggestions would be great.

Allergic reaction.: An allergic reaction to a drug may take several days to appear.  If you are taking no other new meds, then you likely are allergic to Bactrim.  Call the prescribing doctor.  Take 25-50 mg Benadryl, (diphenhydramine) (after reading label to be sure it is something you can take safely).  If you have trouble breathing, swallowing, or chest pain, go to an ER right away.

Wait and see: Sounds like you recently took a lot of antibiotics. After Azithromycin and bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) you do not need any more. Commonly with a sinus infection,  post nasal drip can cause a scratchy throat. Swollen lymph nodes are a nonspecific symptom which can indicate infection, inflammation or malignacy. Your symptoms should improve within 1-2 weeks. If not a return visit to your doctor is indicated.

Depends..: Many infections can linger even after sore throat has resolved. In general most reactive lymph nodes diminish in size after a couple weeks once the agent is gone. Mono, for example can take months....also sometimes lymph nodes get larger but dont go back to the original size. I suggest you see someone if it hasnt gone down 2-3 weeks after improvement in case you need to be examined or tested

Re-evaluate: Someone who does not improve after two weeks of treatment needs to be re-evaluated by one's physician in case one has developed complications such as pneumonia, or in case the initial treatment or diagnosis missed the mark.

Pharyngitis/tonsilit: This is either not due to bacterial infection or, less likely, you are infected with an organism resistant to these antibiotics. Suspect you might have infectious mononucleosis or a mononucleosis-like syndrome. Best to see an ENT doctor or an infectious diseases expert. Hope this helps.

anxiety at its worst. on bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for tooth abscess. jaw hurts, feels kinda swollen in throat. how would i know if its spread to throat and closing?

See MD asap: Not my 1st choice of antibiotic. Especially since we can't personally examine you, and know nothing about your medical and dental history, i would recommend that you see a physician (your own pcp, 24/7 emergency medical facility or er of an emergency room) asap. It's always better to be safe than sorry. These things can go downhill quickly. It's also better to have someone drive or accompany you.

Annoyingly LONG: glands (lymph nodes) swell up almost instantly from viral infections, and can take weeks or months to shrink back to normal size.  This is typical, try not to get too anxious about it, but if you are concerned, see your doctor.

regarding my 5yr old with high liver levels, her glands on neck are swollen and so is her the glands on her groin , wcc was 22 but is down back to 11?

Helps a little: I answered your previous question about your daughter. Knowing glands are enlarged helps a little, makes me think more towards an acute infection mononucleosis, but still not enough information about her history and exam to really say much. Is there a reason her doctors aren't saying anything to you about what they think? They are really best situated to give you a full assessment of her condition
