Depends: Assuming the infection  and the tooth are treated quickly and effectively then maybe 3-7 days.   Often patients feel significantly better the day after treatment.

Not Necessarily: Dental infections can take a while to subside. What procedure was performed? The dentist who is treating you and prescribed the antibiotics should be consulted to have that area reevaluated.

given penicillin 500mg for a tooth infection. says take every 6 hrs for 7 days. can i take one dose late daily? i sometimes sleep longer than 6 hours.

Yes: The easy answer is yes.  If your 30 min late on a dose it's not a huge deal.  Just try to stick to the 6hr time frame as close as you can.  If you're getting the appropriate total dosage in each 12-hr period you should be fine.

i just found one of my clindamycin pills i had been taking 4 times a day for a tooth infection. my last pill was taken friday night and i just found another- it must have fallen. do i take it to finish the course?

No: If more than half a day has passed it's too late, just toss it out. Know that antibiotics do not cure infected teeth, just prevent the spread of infection until you can have the tooth treated. Important to follow up with your Dentist.

Particularly if partially or near totally "impacted" (hopelessly trapped in bone and out of position) these teeth can be a source of significant facial and neck space infection. While Ludwigs is a rare occurrence, it seems that someone or something has prompted this concern in you. An exam and discussion with an oral surgeon is best.

Tooth Infection: Tooth infections are usually localized and do not result in a fever. If you have a fever due to this infection, it means that the infection is getting into your bloodstream, taxing your immune system. Please see a dentist immediately to have that tooth and infection treated.

i took amoxil for 3 wk for tooth infection prescribed by dentist, didn't took away my pain but it's less pianful. if i still have pain will the dentist extract my tooth on the day of my appointment? (4/29) last time he didn't and rx more amoxil?

: sounds like you have a dental abscess. Antibiotics will help to a certain degree but if there is an abscess it must be drained or it will not resolve. Whether he does an extraction or a root canal is at your dentist clinical evaluation
