Did the injury happen at work? what physical therapy is he/she getting? etc.

Physical therapy: Working with a physical therapist to increase range of motion, strength and improve gait is generally recommended.  Patients usually start with a walker and progress to a cane or no assistance with time.  Early weight bearing is encouraged in most cases.

Follow-up: Hip dislocations associated with acetabular fractures are challenging injuries to treat. My assumption is that your surgeon still has you on weight-bearing restrictions as I don't let my patients progress with weight-bearing for 3 months after their surgery. Groin pain indicates true hip pain, but these injuries can take 1-2 years to get to an optimal outcome as long as there is no recurrent

Depends on condition: There is no age limit on having a hip fracture repaired safely.  It has more to do with physiologic conditioning than chronological age.  Some are very fit at 98!  to leave a badly fractured hip unrepaired usually condemns  a patient to non-weight bearing which can lead to all kinds of problems such as bed sores, blood clots, pneumonia, etc.  The health-care team must optimize all aspects of care.
