Depends: Depends on how extensive the detachment was and what kind of procedure was done, especially if gas or silicone oil was used and you have to position a certain way (such as face down). Ask your retina specialist.

Accepted Answer

Usually not: Certainly very vigorous exercise or hit to the eye may induce a retinal detachment at a place of weakness but generally, normal exercise should pose no problems.  Your eye experiences very violent movements when you read!

are there any forms of exercise increase the risk for a retinal detachment?

Accepted Answer

Indirect: The risk of a detachment relates mostly to the internal structure of the eye, previous illness and injury, surgery,  and refractive errors.  If any of these are present, then jiggling and bouncing of the head a eye can increase the risk for retinal detachment.  For most there is no added risk and especially in younger persons who have solid gelatinous vitreous gel holding everything in place.

Accepted Answer

Many causes: The eye color can change from a cloudy cornea, from corneal swelling after surgery or from iris color change.  Iris color is a function of the amount of pigment, blood and nerve supply.  Trauma and inflammation, injury and surgery and diseases that damage or diminish nerve supply can cause iris color to change.  Pigment can be lost during surgery and make the iris color lighter.

Surgery: Very normal, depending on how long ago surgery was done. Followup with surgeon.

Possibly: Pain can occur months later. Pain is more commonly associated with scleral buckle surgery or long term silicone oil.

i've had 4 ops to fix retinal detachment. 3 weeks ago is most recent, when can i exercise again? any way of reducing side effects of prednisolone?

Maybe, but: Ask your retinal surgeon.  I allow patients to resume exercise when i feel that they are out of danger of redetaching the retina. It can be anywhere from a month to three.  Prednisolone eye drops are commonly used after eye surgery.  Their side effects are cataract and glaucoma. This is often difficult and limits treatment.  Check with your doctor.

i had retinal detachment with macula off and had 2times surgery  after my second surgery  i can see some shadow in my upper and lower side vison . is it normal?

Retinal detachment ?: With true detachment  of the retina, recovery of original visual ability is usually affected and is permanent. The surgery will serve to prevent further detachment in the eye affected, but a "shadow" or slightly diminished vision is an unfortunate result.

See ophthalmologist: Retinal detachment can be for some reasons as diabetes , blood vessels disease etc; ;The best is consult ophthalmologist who can suggest you best treatment and what to avoid to prevent for further detachment

i had retinal detachment in left eye. now i have new iol and heavy silicone oil. vision is little blurry and wonky. its normal for silicone oil? also im light sensitive. thanks so much?

Accepted Answer

: Do you mean you had silicone band as the treatment for the left eye retinal detachment? Was that done at the same time with the cataract surgery with lens implant? Your vision will not be as clear after the retinal detachment as before even with treatment and I wonder how long the surgery was done.
