Weeks: Return to exercise after hernia repair is dependent on the health of the patient, method of hernia repair, and extent of surgery.  Following laparoscopic hernia repair, my patients are instructed to begin aerobic exercise whenever they feel well enough. Many will be fast-walking on a treadmill or elliptical within a week, running outdoors in 2-3 weeks, and back to pre-surgical fitness in 4-6 weeks.

Could be.: Dull pain in the groin (inguinal) region is sometimes associated with an uncomplicated inguinal hernia.  Things that would aggravate a hernia or make them symptomatic include straining or stretching, such as with running.  Have a general surgeon exam you for hernia in the left inguinal area.

i am a 63 yr old runner with a small inguinal hernia i am considering having repaired surgically.  how common is it for the mesh to interfere with running and other physical activities long term?

Speak w your surgeon: Most of the hernia surgeries are well tolerated without problems after regular healing. Since we don’t know  your own situation including prior surgeries and underlying health conditions I cannot be more specific. You may want to get a 2nd opinion and hear the same information from a,difference doc more familiar with your history. Good luck

Inguinal hernia: its very well possible. Probably what you are experiencing is scar tissue or mesh or both affecting / irritating the inguinal nerve.

had a lrg seroma after dbl hernia surgery, got smaller after 5 weeks , should it be gone after 6mths or do they take longer as in still their but smal?

Seroma: Majority of time six months is enough time for seroma to resolve. At this point it can safely be aspirated if resolution is not satisfactory. How it should be done depends on comfort level of surgeon. It can be done with or without ultrasound. With ultrasound is somewhat safer.

i am an older male, 68 but i had normal sexual function prior to a hernia surgery two months ago. i still achieve normal erections considering my age however i can no longer ejaculate upon orgasm. i could prior to the surgery. is this permanent?

: This will depend on cause. At your age most common would be rusty arteries going to penis due to atherosclerosis. But sudden change after surgery suggests relationship. I would discuss with surgeon who knows what was done exactly and what the usual course is after their surgery in men like you. You did not mention it surgery was on both sides?

i had open inguinal hernia surgery 6 weeks ago. is it normal to still have some pain for most activities (walking, lifting)? if yes, how much longer?

Post operative pain: The tissue may take upto 6 months to remodel itself. Pain will decrease over time.

i had lap band and hernia surgery two days ago. i am having severe pain and can no longer pass gas or have a bowel movement? normal???

Pain: Severe pain is never normal.  Call your surgeon and follow up.  He/she can better answer your question and help control your pain.

it's been 17 days since the inguinal hernia surgery, but the hernia still feels like a water ball on the side of the testicle. my doctor said it will go away in the future. will it take longer to heal? this is a problem for me. please explain to me?

: sometimes a little blood collects in the area called hematoma and is gradually absorbed . If the wound is clean it will heal normally. For the swelling you can use a heating pad for 10mts  three times a day. I think you will be OK

Unclear : I'm not sure what you're referring to. In case you're referring to a fluid collection where the lump used to be, this is known as a seroma, and usually takes on the order of weeks to months for the body to absorb the fluid on its own.  Hope this helps!
