Relax: First, food choices are almost never the key to getting well. This is rubbish. Second, labs reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. Third, if the specimen is non-fasting, elevated alk phos means nothing. Fourth, isolated elevated alk phos is not an indicator of any treatable illness. Stop worrying, stay physically fit, and be glad for good health.

i had an isolated positive rnp of 1.8 negative being less then 1. i have no symptoms. my doctor ran an ana based on high bone specific alkaline phos and possible celiac disease. all asymptomatic?

: Positive RNP antibody does not mean you have mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) because test specificity is low. Positive test is not uncommon in normal people. I do not see any correlation between high bone ALP levels and + RNP antibody. Good luck.

i have purpura and pitting edema on my lower legs. had physical, doc says i'm healthy. high alkaline level. what can this be?

Abnormal: These are abnormal findings and could be due to vasculitis or significant venous insufficiency. I feel you need further evaluation and explanation of your symptoms and signs. Discuss this with your physician.

Not from eating: abnormal lab tests are not from eating. Ask PCP To look for the cause. Also see what meds you are taking and see if it is from medicines. Check with pharmacist.  It is not from allergy injections

Doubt it: Rare things rarely happen. A kid with frank leukemia doesn't just have a high percentage of lymph's,  they are often the only things seen &amp; number in the hundreds of thousands. The data presented is minimal. From the numbers this could easily be a simple viral illness.

in 2008 - alkaline phosphatase level 166 and liver size 180mm. in 2016 my liver was 157mm, no alkaline phosphatase tested. just has tests again - alk phos 121, liver size 210mm. why alk phos lower but liver larger? how can i shrink it? how long to?

Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, one reason for your liver to be larger could be fatty infiltration. If you are overweight, lose weight. If you are diabetic, better control of diabetes is important. Do not drink alcohol at all. Have your medications checked by your doctor

my liver enzymes have fluctuated between normal and mildly elevated over the past 2 yrs.  the alt, ggtp, alkaline phos, bili, includiing the mcv.  i also have hypothyroid disease and take armour thyroid.  should i be concerned?

Abnormal LFT: You need to have further evaluation, abnormal lft may be from hepatitis c , fatty liver, autoimmune disease etc...

Liver or bone: Answer can depend on situation. Pregnancy can raise alk phos level. In general, however, the source is either liver or bone and the reason should be determined, since the causes can be treated. There are too many possibilities to list and your doctor will have to determine the source, possibly by doing additional testing. Liver may mean hepatitis or bile duct blockage. Bone can be paget's disease.

Rx cause: Treat the person, not the numbers. I trust that this is not hepatitis c or alcohol abuse or wilson's or anything else that has a simple treatment. We'd all like to see your numbers down, but from now on an alt below forty may be like a lean weight is for many people -- something you work for and might achieve. Diet & exercise are the mainstay -- are you in a fitness club? Best wishes.

Wrong approach: Alkaline phosphatase is a lab value to tell a physician what is happening, not a medical problem to treat. It can be high just because you're growing (teens tend to be maybe 5x the upper limit of the reference range). About 5% of older folks have a high alk phos for "no reason", presumably paget's of the bone that never becomes evident; nonfasting samples may have it from the intestine.
