Possible infection: Lymph nodes are localized groups of white cells that are designed to attack foreign tissue, especially infections.  When activated, there can be a burning sensation to the surrounding tissues.  Ringing in the ear is a non specific symptom, but may be associated with inflammation and infection.  Best to have this checked out.

Sounds familiar: I can't say I have a great explanation but this is an accurate description of something i experienced as a child.  On a practical level if this is not something that is associated with other symptoms and she is otherwise thriving you needn't worry about it.

It is impossible to give an accurate DX without the exam.

May be TMJ: This complaint suggests inflammation of the TMJ joint.  People who gring or clench their teeth often get this.   People who have misaligned teeth can get this.  There are also lymph nodes in area which can get infected ofr inflammed.  Rarely tumors of the parotid gland can cause these complaints.  Yiou need checking by you dentist and doctor.  Try soft diet, no gum, warm packs, aleve, (naproxen) etc.

Lumps: Lumps in the neck need to be evaluated by a surgeon. Many are infectious and are lymph nodes which may react to local ear or tooth infections. But some are more ominous and need careful evaluation and following. Depending on how long present, anything more than 2 weeks means a complete exam.

TMJ: This sounds like tmj, or temporomandibular joint, pain.  Often people experience associated bruxism, or muscle spasm of the chewing muscles, which radiates pain down the neck and sometime up into the side of the head.  Soft diet and anti-inflammatories, such as motrin, are helpful.  If this continues, seek the help of your dentist, or a TMJ specialist who will often recommend a bite guard at night.
