i have problem in upper eyelid which has swollen and no pain. what is the root cause and treatment to cure that. ?

Many possibilities: Swelling without pain can be from many causes - tumor, allergic reaction, blocked eyelid gland, inflammation, infection.  If it does not go away in a day or two, see an ophthalmologist.

yesterday, i must have gotten something in my eye when doing a home project. it was likely a piece of wood or a paint chip. i should have been wearing eye protection. hindsight is 20/20 (ok, bad dad joke).

this morning, my upper eyelid is swollen, red, and sensitive to the touch. my vision seems to be fine. at what point would i need to be seen? i have been flushing with eye drops and cold compress. anything else i should do?

Ice, cool compress : Watch for signs of infection and vision change. Apply a thin layer of Bacitracin ointment twice daily. Please follow up with your physician. If there is eye redness and pain of the orbit, please see the Emergency Department.

Infection / allergy: Swelling of the upper eyelid could be from an infected oil gland or skin glan, from a blocked oil gland (stye or chalazion), from allergy, from an insect bite or exposure, and from edema related to lying down. Infections are usually painful, tender and diffuse, while a stye is more like a non-tender lump. Allergy usually is associated with itching. Also, blepharitis is a chronic low grade infection.

Eyelid swelling with: Can be indicative of an allergic reaction. Contact allergy can be responsible and treated with topical ophthalmic anti-inflammatory ointment prescribed from your ophthalmologist. Other common causes could include blepharitis (eyelid margin infection) and variations thereof, eczema and infection. Uncommonly, infection of the eyelid itself can cause swelling and be treated with oral antibiotics.

Stye: Although there are many reasons for a swollen red eyelid, a chalazion or "stye" is probably the most common. It is not an infection but essentially a blocked oil gland on the eyelid. Usually they will resolve with warm compresses on the eyelid a few times a day for about a week. If is doesn't resolve, seek care from an eye doctor.

Stye , infection etc: It could be blepharitis- which could be caused by infection , allergies etc. Or it could be stye- i.e. Abscess/pimple on the eye lid. Do you have discharge on the eye? Do you feel a pimple on the eye lid? For stye-you should just put hot compress 4x/day for several days and it would heal itself. Never pop a stye. If you have greenish discharge on the eye or redness on the eye as well- go to see md.

Avoid eyeliner: Yes makeup should not be a problem, but avoid the mascara and eyeliner until the sty completely resolves.

Swollen eyelid: There is internal stye, so what you saw can still be a stye. There is also cholazion which is related to stye. I would suggest you see a doc to figure it all out.

Infection or allergy: A swollen upper eye lid could be either a simple stye or a more serious infection, particularly if it is red.
Swollen eye lids can be  caused by allergies also. Allergies are more likely to be itchy.
If this doesn't settle down quickly you will need to see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment as you may need antibiotics for infection
