my husband was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia taking nexium, (esomeprazole) but he is losing weight, loss of appetite, and sleeps a lot could this be more then a herni?

Talk with your doc: Great question. When belly pain or any changes in our digestion are also associated with losing weight, it increases our level of our concern. If we feel bad, eat less, we will often lose weight. *but* it's important to check out other things too and make sure it's not the more worrisome things. Good for you!

i  have a hiatal hernia 28f abdominal pain worse when stomache is pushed on weightloss. loss of appetite also have fatty tumor in colon need answers?

Not enough info: Hiatal hernia and colonic fatty tumors called lipomas are common findings in healthy people.  It would be uncommon for these to be the cause of your weight loss and tenderness.  This should be discussed further with your doctor.

Surgery?: do you mean you had a hiatal hernia surgery and you want your appetite back.or it have been two weeks since you discover you have a hiatal hernia and you have been taking the treatment and you are wondering when are you going to get your appetite back.either way IUD you had surgery it take three months before you feel good and eat right. Hiatal hernia: Yes. Theoretically weight loss decreases intraabdominal fat and reduces pressure and reflux symptoms and may modify the hiatal hernia. Improvement in muscle tone in the abdomen is also a factor.

Accepted Answer

Should not: A hiatal hernia is just a loosening of the diaphragm allowing part of the stomach to slip up into the chest thereby allowing easier acid reflux to occur into the esophagus.

Need endoscopy: You need to have endoscopy - a tube put down your throat to see if you have a narrowing.  See an endoscopist.  When they look, they can usually fix it, too.

2 drs suspect hiatal hernia. appt w/gi not fr 3 wks. pain under ribs, can't breathe deeply, no appetite, full after 2 bites. when is it an emergency?

Hiatal hernia: Assuming you have a hiatal hernia, it is an emergency when you develop any of the following: can't get liquids down, develop severe pain, have nausea or vomiting, chest pain, or shortness of breath. With large hiatal hernias, the stomach can slide into the chest and get twisted, or impair pulmonary function as well.

Sometimes: Increased hernias after rny because of protein malabsorption. Also after duodenal switch. But not typically with lap band or the gastric sleeve.

25 year old endoscopy findings-4cm hiatal hernia,gastropathy in entire stomach,erosion in first part of duodenum.stomach biospy showed erosion in background of mild reactive gastropathy,no h pylori.no pathologic changes.does this explain bad appetite?

: Very likely.  Significant gastric irritation, especially in a 26 year old.  Be sure to follow-up with your Gastroenterologist
