Hemorrhoids or not?: Are you sure you have just hemorrhoids? Bleeding from the rectum that recurs may also indicate anal fissures, proctitis (due to infection, inflammatory bowel disease, radiation therapy, stercoral ulcers, rectal prolapse, trauma, etc.) or a bleeding source further upstream. Depending on your age, risk factors, current medication (aspirin, nsaid's, anticoagulants can cause bleeding), get evaluated.

hi, i got a hemorrhoid and it's fairly large, doesn't hurt but prep h and other creams aren't shrinking it. i'm at a lost for what to do also i'm worr?

GI consult : Hemorrhoidd have stages and can even pop out and need to be pushed back in. At this stage you need a visit to a colorectal surgeon for hemorrhoidal banding and evaluation for possible hemorrhoidectomy.

A few tricks below: 1) avoid toilet paper - use baby wipes or moist wipes

2) have soft bowel movements - if needed, use a stool softener

3) do not stay on the toilet too long - no reading

4) everyone has hemorrhoids - you control them, by avoiding the flares

5) warm soaks  2x/day if flares occur.

See a surgeon: Maybe a thrombosed external hemorrhoid. Takes about  a week to resolve on its own or see a surgeon about thrombosed hemorrhoid surgery.

will prep for a colonoscopy irritate my hemorrhoids? how can i prevent them from becoming enlarged?

Colonoscopy: The bowel movements can irritate your hemorrhoids. You can try a cortisone cream to decrease the irritation and also coat the hemorrhoid with desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) cream as a barrier before starting your bowel prep.

hi i keep getting hemorrhoids i dont know how to get rid of them i use prep h but they seem to never go away what should i do?

: You should see a GI doctor to see if a procedure needs to be done to get rid of them. In the meantime, it is important to control any constipation you have so you don’t need to strain when having a bowel movement. You may need medicine to treat constipation so that your stools are soft as this will help control the hemorrhoids. But, see a GI doctor for treatment. Good luck!

should i buy witch hazel liquid or prep h for my hemorrhoids?

Neither: I don't recommend witch hazel as many people will develop a contact dermatitis to witch hazel. Prep h has nothing that has ever been shown tro treat hemorrhoids other than as a lubricant. If a patient tells me prep h helps, i know they do not have significant hemorrhoidal problems.

have internal hemorrhoid that's comin out will anucort suppositories help or prep h wipes & ointment be best. was on med that caused constipation ?

Avoid constipation: should avoid meds that cause constipation. also do warm sits bath 3 times a day for 10 days, and apply hemorrhoid cream after each bath, suppositories don't help much. High fiber diet is also beneficial.

colonoscopy cause hemorrhoids. ever since i had one i got butt problems. i use prep h and just got tucks (witch hazel). help?

Accepted Answer

No: Hemorrhoids are varicose veins developing in the venuos outflow of the anal canal.  They occur just within the sphincter as internal hemorrhoids and outside as exeternal lesion.  They are not caused or associated with colonoscopy.
