my 6 year old. brother is experiencing hearing loss after finishing the antibiotic accel-clarithrommycin, which is a  side effect. is this temporary?

I doubt...: ...That the hearing loss is due to clarithromycin; it is unrelated to aminoglycosides like gentamycin that really are toxic to the ear.  In a 6 year old, it is much more likely that he had an ear infection that has not yet completely resolved. Either way, he needs to be observed by a competent pediatrician or ent.

progressive idiopathic severe unilateral hearing loss & tinnitus starting since 2009. normal mri of iam/brain in 2013 & 2014. recently tinnitus got worse but suspect due to stress and potential side effect of covid vaccine. does mri need repeated?

: I doubt if it would give you any useful information. The nerve endings that are being lost in this process are microscopic or sub microscopic. Examination under an electron microscope might reveal the actual process, but that requires tissue samples from the inner ear. The MRI would not do that.

hearing loss on right side. had mri scan. what are the different illnesses that can cause this please? i would just like to know possible causes.

Here are a few: Number one and MOST COMMON is NOISE damage (for example if you shoot firearms and do not use Hearing Protection. Unilateral nerve damage can alseo be INFECTIOUS in nature, viral and bacterial EAR infections (=Otitis). A benign tumor (Acoustic Neuroma) can cause hearing loss but the MRI most likely rules out that Diagnosis.

ENT Evaluation: I would see an ears nose and throat specialist they will do an audio evaluation and likely an MRI to see if there is a structural cause to your unilateral hearing loss. This must be evaluated

Possible: Possible, but if still with symptoms, I would revisit the situation and see an ENT as there are other causes.

i have bilateral tinnitus. no hearing loss. but i am super sensitive to certain sounds and my hearing is so good i can hear literally something so faint on the other side of the house. can that be slight hyperacusis ? not affected by everything. tia?

: Possibly not. You need a good acoustical exam and treatment based on the findings. Not a TIA

One possibility: It sounds like you are referring to an area known as the angle of the mandible, and if the "growth" came on rapidly and is painful, it is more likely to be infection than cancer-related.  In the absence of other significant illness you are likely to have an infection involving the inner ear/sinuses.  This would cause vertigo, which is a sense of you\ the room spinning, worse when moving your head.

is vertigo to be expected with single sided sensorineural hearing loss (severe) even if there is no acoustic neuroma involved? i get occasional very short episodes (1-2 seconds). two mris of iac/head came back normal?

: Apparently there can be associated vertigo with sensorineural hearing loss . Would followup with  otolaryngology
