I doubt...: ...That the hearing loss is due to clarithromycin; it is unrelated to aminoglycosides like gentamycin that really are toxic to the ear. In a 6 year old, it is much more likely that he had an ear infection that has not yet completely resolved. Either way, he needs to be observed by a competent pediatrician or ent.
