TTH: Tension type headaches (also known as stress headaches) are the most common of headaches. Although research suggests that tth is not caused by muscle contraction, it may be associated with pericranial muscle tenderness, increased EMG activity and stress. i recently starting taking advil and took my first lexapro pill for anxiety last night, over 12 hours ago. i have been using tylenol for headaches but it is not working well. can i safely take two advil? i heard lexapro can increase risk of bleeding?

: Two OTC Advil (200 mg x 2) is the average dose and you can safely take it for an acute headache as needed only with a full stomach when taking Lexapro. If you use Advil for headache too often side effects can happen, and one of them is called analgesic headache. If you have chronic headache, you should see a doctor or better a neurologist for a correct diagnosis and preventive treatment.

Call your surgeon : The pain medication prescribed after "wisdom teeth" removal depends in the difficulty of the removal. For straightforward extraction advil and tylenol (acetaminophen) can work fine but for more difficult extractions vicodin or Percocet works well. Your surgeon can call in a prescription for vicodin for pain and an anti-emetic like Phenergan for nausea  to a pharmacy near you.   If you smoke, now us a good to quit.

A : A moderate or severe headache that is new or different from those that have been experienced in the past, and that does not go away with over-the-counter medications is a good reason to seek medical evaluation.  The medical evaluation could be conducted by a primary care provider or an urgent care provider, who could determine if an emergency is present.  While there is a low chance of a serious problem, like the sentinel headache of a ruptured aneurysm, the consequences of such a problem could be life-threatening.

i have had a headache for three days advil (ibuprofen) and excedrin migraine not working....have nausea....i don't usually have headaches and never one advil (ibuprofen) does?

May be a migraine: Do you have light sensitivity?  Do you have a throbbing or pulsating headache?  If yes, then you probably have a migraine.  It may help you to have treatment with a medicine such as sumatriptan, or ketorolac, to have relief.  Do not fear, this kind of headache does get better soon!

If you do not have these symptoms, or if you do, an evaluation is also a good idea.

can someone overdose on advil? like if they take too much in one sitting? i get some painful headaches so i'm wondering if i were to take like idk 20 would i die from it or would you need more for that? and whats the safest amount to take for headach?

: With advil OTC, the strength is 200 mg for one tablet and an otherwise healthy young adult can take a maximal dose of 600 mg (3 tablets of 200 mg) every 6 or 800 mg (4 tablet of 200 mg) every 8 hours so the total tablets should not more than 12 tablets of 200 mg in 24 hours.
For headache, you should not take more than twice a day at maximal dose and do not take more than 2 days a week. Take care.

Tylenol: They both may relieve headache. Advil has an additional effect of being anti-inflammatory and Tylenol does not but doesn't irritate the stomach lining or cause fluid retention. Because of this I would favor taking Tylenol if it's effective.

is excedrin any better than advil for treating chronic headaches?

Accepted Answer

No.: Excedrin and Advil have different pathways for working on pain and it is difficult to say which one works better for chronic headaches. Everyone is different. Advil is a stronger medication than Excedrin but Excedrin can work better in some people. You simply have to try both and see for yourself.

Take only one: Take only one pill. You may take the second pill no sooner than 4 hours, if the headache persists.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. 
Get HPV vaccine

can u take an advil for a headache if you're on celebrex (celecoxib)? if not, is there anything safe for a headache?

Accepted Answer

No advil (ibuprofen): Advil and Celebrex are in the same class of medications and should not be combined.  You should also stay away from Aspirin and aleve(naproxen).  Tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok with Celebrex as long as there is no other reason for you to avoid it. If you are unsure, check with your doctor.
