Congestion: Any over the counter anti-histamine/allergy medication such as loratadine (Claritin), cetirizine (Zyrtec) or levocetizine (Xyzal) can be taken for relief. If there is a lot of nasal drainage, you can also use fluticasone (Flonase) nasal spray, or similar steroid nasal sprays (Nasacort, Nasonex, Rhinocort). If the nasal passages feel blocked, try saline nasal rinses.

Inflamed nose: It is a good treatment but some individuals improve by avoiding irritants or allergens. Others benefit from intranasal saline or cromolyns (nasalchrom) or antihistamines (astelex or astepro). Lastly if your problem is due to chronic allergies rebuilding your immune system with specific immunotherapy is a good idea.

Cold: Wheezing in babies less than 18 months is called bronchiolitis and often doesn't respond to asthma medications and is caused by a virus. If there is a persistent fever, increased work of breathing or poor intake of fluid; your baby should be rechecked. Elevate his/her head, suction nasal passages often and keep the room not too hot and not too dry. All the best.

i have a red splotchy kind of rash over n around the sight of a tegaderm bandage for a rib tattoo. doesn't itch but i also have nasal congestion like an allergic reaction that benadryl helped. no swelling/hives. should i be concerned? home treatment?

: People can develop allergies to the adhesive used in bandages or from the ink used in tattoos.  Both are possibilities given the symptoms you describe.  You could start with removing the bandage, cleaning the wound and applying a cortisone topical cream.

Decongestants/lavage: Acute head congestion can be due to nasal allergy or viral infection like common cold or flu, which causes sinus congestion.Most of these are self limiting and you may take an oral decongestant like sudafed if there is no contraindication to it with and without saline lavage, but if there is evidence of bacterial infection on culture than antibiotics can be used
chronic congestion needs more effort.

Neti pot: I love neti pot. It works great for me! there are tons of over-the-counter meds used for head congestion, otherwise, such as daiquil, nyquil, alka saltzer, terra flu etc. They are all pretty much the same but they seem to treat the brain more than the problem.

just finished zpack on saturday.  i still have minimal chest/head congestion. is this normal to linger?

It's ok...: Symptoms often persist a while after the antibiotic course is completed.  Your body just needs some time to fully recover.  Just check in again with your doctor if symptoms worsen, you develop fever or other symptoms of relapse.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
