Decongestants/lavage: Acute head congestion can be due to nasal allergy or viral infection like common cold or flu, which causes sinus congestion.Most of these are self limiting and you may take an oral decongestant like sudafed if there is no contraindication to it with and without saline lavage, but if there is evidence of bacterial infection on culture than antibiotics can be used chronic congestion needs more effort.
