can a pediatric surgeon do the gynecology surgery for imperforate hymen?

Accepted Answer

Not recommended: A pediatric surgeon has training in a host of areas but not in gynecology.  I would seek a pediatric gynecologist or a gynecologist with several years of experience.  Gynecologists understand the anatomy better.

is pain and nausea after gynecologic endoscopic surgery normal. i did the surgery 3 weeks ago.

Not typical: The answer would depend on what surgery was done. Generally a fast recovery is expected 3 weeks after surgery. If you are not well then consider seeing your surgeon for a postoperative evaluation

my gynecology sched a hymenectomy for me before this year end.what should i expect from the surgery?do i really need to be sedated?

Yes: It is painful to have surgery without sedation. He can numb the area with lidocaine but that may not be adequate in blocking all the pain. It's best to discuss your options with your GYN rather than discussing on this board because he/she can specifically guide you and discuss post op concerns in details.

i have two questions. 1. is there such thing as a laborist, and if so, what is that? 2. can you choose to not do surgery while being an obstetrician (no gynecology included) ?

Hello...: A laborist is an obstetrics doctor who takes care of women in labor. To be an obstetrician, you would need to be able to perform c-sections, which is a surgery. Hope this helps! Good luck in all your endeavors!

should i trust a regular ob gyn to do a laparoscopic cystectomy on an 8.4 and 4 cm hypoechoic cystic lesion? or should i have a gynecologic oncologist do a laparatomy? both suspect endometriomas/endometriosis but have different surgery suggestions.

GYN oncologist: GYN oncologist always preferable since many complications reported after laparsocopic GYN procedures.  Bowel injuries and bleeding during cystectomy reported and often because of unexpected findings procedure has to be converted to an open one. This is especially true in the presence of endometriosis.

Technically yes: The surgery can be technically reversed, but may not improve symptoms or be recommended. Talk to a general surgeon who specializes in gastric bypass or obesity surgery.

pouch surgery in ulcerative coitis y doesn't it work on everybody?

Accepted Answer

Indication 4 surgery: Pouch creation and successful performance in ulcerative colitis patients truly shows the "art" of medical/surgical care. If you have been told by your surgical team that you are not ready, or not a candidate for a pouch, then okay to ask more questions of that team. It is better to stay with an ileostomy than proceed too fast to a pouch. Many factors can derail your ultimate success.

See below: Current stressors like your surgery, impaired sleep due to pain, possible reduced workload or other changes in your life can bring on anxiety. You may also have had a preexisting anxiety condition that has broken through with tolerance to the opioid med. You may try other tx like cognitive behavioral therapy, exercise, stretch or manual tx: chiropractic care. Check w/ your Dr. about the symptoms.

is eye surgery for a 93 y.o.?

Age: As long as patient is healthy enough for sedation, age is not a significant factor when deciding on surgical intervention.  I have operated on several healthy patients over 100 years old.
