Better or worse?: Typically after surgery, the surgical pain lasts a few days then it progressively gets better.  The trend is to have less and less discomfort from decreasing pain and swelling ; be able to open and use jaw for chewing more.  If the swelling/pain is getting worse, it is advisable to see your doctor.  If there is discharge, abscess,  or redness occurring, you should have it evaluated asap.

Ice/heat: In the first few hours after the extraction, it is recommended that you out ice on the cheek on the side of the extraction. After the first day, you can put mild heat.
