Better or worse?: Typically after surgery, the surgical pain lasts a few days then it progressively gets better. The trend is to have less and less discomfort from decreasing pain and swelling ; be able to open and use jaw for chewing more. If the swelling/pain is getting worse, it is advisable to see your doctor. If there is discharge, abscess, or redness occurring, you should have it evaluated asap.

Postop pain\swelling: If it's been getting better each day or at least the last day or two, you could wait it out. If there is no improvement or if pain and\or swelling is not subsiding, you should contact your surgeon for advice. In my opinion, i would rather see my patients to confirm proper healing than waiting until their problem (and mine) is worse. Call and ask.

See surgeon: Call your surgeon and have post-op examine. There are many common post-op complications like dry sockets or infections. They can determine the cause and treat it if needed. Good luck.
