Possible but: Group B strep does not always cause a discharge but it can. Given your description, please be sure to have your doctor check to see if other infections can be contributing.

No there is no risk: Vaginal exams are performed with a sterile speculum.  Even though approximately 25% of women are colonized with group b strep, it is highly unlikely that the speculum would enter the uterus to transmit the bacteria to the fetus.

GBS: Group b strep (gbs) is one of many bacteria that live on most people's body. When it lives on or around the vaginal area, a newborn baby has a higher risk of getting in or on the body.

Unfortunately, gbs can be deadly to a newborn.  Please talk to your doctor about what you can do to reduce this risk.

: Group B strep is a bacteria frequently found in the stool and vagina. It is occasionally linked to urinary tract symptoms/infections. The culture count is not impressive but treating it with oral meds may be helpful, but oral meds does not eliminate the germ from the poop. There may be other issues as a cause for both areas of burning.

i have chronic vaginal group b strep. i'm 65 years old. allergic to penicillan, amoxicilan, any cillans. clindamycin did not work. any suggestions? i now have burning, irritation and may have a uti also. i am prediabetic.

GBS: GBS is one of many germs considered normal in the digestive tract. The outlets proximity to the vagina make it a common contaminant of that area. Unless it is causing a UTI (verified by urine culture), or in the vaginal germs of a pregnant woman about to deliver it is often ignored ( not treated). I think you &amp; your doc need to sort out what/why this is an issue.

Group B strep: Group B strep commonly is in the vagina, and you can assume that if urine is positive. If symptoms of UTI, your doc will treat you. The main GBS problem is serious infections of babies if present in the vagina during delivery. Make sure your obststrician is aware; she will test with a vaginal swab as your due date approaches and will prescribe an appropriate antibiotic if present at that time.

List is long: The differential diagnosis includes Behcet's, Lipschitz's, Crohn's, herpes, a bunch of others, and "idiopathic" aphthae. I never heard of strep B doing this, and shotgun treatment with polysporin doesn't clarify the cause. Here are some...: To confirm UTI is based on history + urinalysis + urine culture. History raises the concern of possible UTI; UA + U-culture are to confirm, but always using properly collected urine specimen so to avoid contamination as you mentioned. Clinically, strep B may cause UTI but rare since all bacteria are opportunistic to reflect personal unique defense ability. For detail, ask your doctor timely.
