about 4 years ago  i had mono but ever since i have had a two lymph nodes in my groin and its 1.4 cm long and .6 wide do you think i should see a doc?

marble sized lumps in groin (6weeks+) & neck (10 years+ since mono). bloods clear of infection. fatigue. gp isn't worried, should i get a 2nd opinion?

Yes: For something that has been bothering you for 10 years it is always a good idea to have a fresh brain think about it. The other thing is that when a doc tells you all tests are negative that means everything he has checked for did not show up. That is why you may need a fresh set of eyes. Read Dr. Groopman's book "You Medical Mind". good luck!

can lymph nodes stay enlarged due to past infection such as mono after the infection has passed? i have feelable lymph nodes which haven't changed and there pea sized. i'm also very slim and my nodes are movabl in my neck, groin and jaw?

: Yes. If you keep checking your lymph nodes, you continue to irritate them and they stay mildly enlarged.  Try to leave them alone. Also, I appreciate that you mentioned that you are thin, which makes it much easier to feel even normal sized lymph nodes. If you develop pain or a sudden change in the size of your nodes, please seek medical evaluation.

my 26 yr old had enlarged groin lymph node for 5 . weeks . she had a blood test that was fine except for epstein bar ab . she had mono 5 years ago . her agg was high but also her igm was 58 , and she had no recent infection. should we be concerned?

: Enlarged lymph nodes indicate that there is some kind of infection in the immediate area. Since her enlarged lymph node was in the groin region, it could indicate any kind of vaginal/pelvic infection including STD's. She should have a Pap smear and culture to make sure there is no infection causing this that can be treated. Some STD's show no symptoms.

where can lymph nodes swell with mono? dr said i had mono and my collarbone, arm pits, groin and under jaw are all tender.  been about 3 weeks

Lymph nodes: All can swell including those areas you mentioned. After three weeks I would suggest another exam

Evaluation: A complete examination, CBC, differential and ESR is indicated. Consider other infections including Strep. The symptoms are not likely related to stopping the medication. Monitor weight, temperature and drink fluids.

Need more informatio: Apparently it is not related to mono.Why was she tested for mono.And where does she hurt on left side and for how long.We can not tell you what is causing her hurt without having more history and she may need to be examined as well.I will advice you have her checked by your Family Doctor or Pediatrician depending on her age

How sure is the dx?: Reactivated mononucleosis is unusual.  Most cases of mono are caused by EBV but CMV also can cause.  While exceptions exist, usually mononucleosis confers lifelong immunity.  Serologies are often used to check, however remain positive after acquiring the infection even many years.  The monospot (EBV) is usually only positive for 3-5months p. infx.  Other things can cause mono-like syndrome.
