Possible parotiditis: Is the gland in front of the ear swollen?  If so it could be parotiditis.  If it is, push on the gland to see if nasty tasting pus goes into the mouth.  If so, keep massaging it and put ice on the swollen area.  If this is not the parotid gland, it could be a muscle or joint problem specifically the tmj.  If it hurts to open and close the jaw, use ice and take motrin, usea a soft diet for a few d.

i have itchy lumps on the right side of my head an inch above my ear. my gland on that side also seems swollen and a bit sore. should i be concerned?

Yes, get evaluated : The swollen gland is responding to the agent causing the itchy bumps, most likely an infection. This could be folliculitis or bacterial infection in the hair follicles or a fungal ringworm infection. Bug bites are rare in the scalp but could also explain the itchy bumps. A visual exam is extremely important.

It depnds on its siz: You should monitor the size of your lymph gland. If it is less than 1.5 cm, it may not be anything to worry about. But if it is getting bigger and gets to be 2 cm or larger, then you should consult your doctor, as a biopsy may be desirable to find the cause. Nothing immediately to worry about,  but check if it is growing over the next 1-2 months or not..

Yes, it could be: Lymph node, cyst, infection, or even tumor.  A doctor should look at it.  I doubt that it is anything serious if it has been there for 8 years and never caused any problems, but you never know.

Hello, : Hello, i wonder if what you are referring to is inflammation of your subauricular lymph node. 
The lymphatic channels drain tissues of debris, old white blood cells and bacteria.  When handling an area of infection, the nodes can become enlarged and tender. If it is a lymph node, it would be important to determine why is it becoming inflammed. It could be a dental issue or an ear/nose/ throat issue. In that area, that can also be embryonic residual matter that could be an issue. I suggest that you get it checked out.

Those conditions cause inflammation can cause swollen lymph nodes in and around the neck. Of course, it's possible that the swollen glands are due to other reasons, too. One's primary care doctor can help.

If they suspect cancer a biopsy of the lymph node is done to make a proper diagnosis. But swollen lymph glands can also be due to infection in which case an ENT doctor can treat you with antibiotics.
