A member asked:

Mom have pain top of head down to inch above ear for a week been on levaquin (levofloxacin) and still have pain and gland hurt behind ear what could it be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possible parotiditis: Is the gland in front of the ear swollen? If so it could be parotiditis. If it is, push on the gland to see if nasty tasting pus goes into the mouth. If so, keep massaging it and put ice on the swollen area. If this is not the parotid gland, it could be a muscle or joint problem specifically the tmj. If it hurts to open and close the jaw, use ice and take motrin, usea a soft diet for a few d.
