Accepted Answer

Check tests : Usually a herpes culture is done for both herpes one and herpes 2. If either shows up the test will be positive. Herpes blood testing is different. The doctor asks specifically for type one and/or  type two testing. You'll need to clarify with the doctor which lab was done and how it works for the culture.

i have hsv1 genitally. i had an outbreak (2 sores). i'mtaking valtrex. day 1 to 7, i took 1g twice a day. day 8-14, i took 1g three times daily. day13 i dropped down to 1g daily. it's now day14. i only have a small mark left. am i still contagious?

Probably: A person with HSV can transmit the virus even when there are no visible lesions.

For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

if i already have oral hsv1, can i also get genital hsv1 from unprotected sex with my wife. i've read where a person can't have it in more than one area of the body?

Little if any risk: Once infected with HSV (HSV1 or HSV2), people are resistant to new infection with the same type, anywhere on the body. Having oral HSV1, you are at little if any risk for a genital HSV1 infection. Don't push your luck; avoid contact when your wife has an obvious outbreak. Otherwise no worries. Infection can occur at more than one site, but usually only if both sites are infected at the same time.

i got a cold sore for the first time and scared me to death.. but since i have what theyy call "hsv1" is it likelyy to get genital herpes faster !?

No risk, no worries: Probably you have had your oral HSV1 infection a long time, even though you've only had your first outbreak. Half of all adults have oral HSV1. Oral HSV1 is not likely to ever infect your genital area; you are immune to transferring it to anywhere else on your body. Having HSV1 makes you slightly less susceptible to HSV2, the usual cause of genital herpes.

Genital herpes: Either HSV type can cause genital or oral herpes. (HSV1 and 2 are the names of the virus, not the place infected, i.e. oral vs genital.) Many HSV transmitters have no symptoms. If your only genital exposure was by oral sex, almost certainly you have HSV1, which is better than HSV2 because recurrent oubreaks are much less frequent. If you kissed, it was just lucky you didn't also catch it orally.

Of course: These serologic tests tell you nothing about whether you ever have outbreaks. Many of us question their value except in confirming clinical suspicion of active or episodic infection.

Test failure: The tests for viral presence and accurate identification (hsv-1 and hsv-2) are not 100% accurate. They tend to look for antibodies for the particular virus, which may not have yet been detectable when the test was performed. 
A re-test with one of the newer screening tests is advisable.

The answer is, Yes!: HSV is contagious to your sex partner, so you both need a course of antibiotics which may eliminate this infection. Groin nodes can enlarge due to infection or inflammation in and around your genitalia.

Possibly: If you have oral genital sex, then yes. Typically, hsv 2 has been associated with genital herpes. But, with the increase in oral genital sex, there has been crossover with hsv 1 causing genital herpes.

: It was thought to be that HSV-1 was oral and HSV-2 was genital. This is no longer the case. The risk of contracting the disease occurs with contact with someone in those areas who have active infection, which is a the vesicular rash. Once someone has HSV, they can be a carrier and may have flares/outbreaks in the future
