referred to surgeon because of a polyp that has grown into my appendix.  is appendix removal similar to gallbladder removal?

Accepted Answer

Yes: usually both are done laprascopically (small incisions).  Only difference will likely be the soreness from appendectomy will be less as the procedure is in the lower right part of your abdomen, not right under rib cage.

Accepted Answer

No, unless...: Basic rule: don't complicate anything by doing more surgery when risk for infection is increased.  However if infection risk is well controlled, and gallbladder disease is well established and documented and the surgeon is made aware that you have been suffering from the disease it wouldn't be entirely prohibited.  
Should not be done in a "preventative" manner, "while the docs in there anyway...".

Likely not appenditi: there are many causes of rlq pain. It does not sound like appendicitis

??: Do you mean are you at increased risk of gallbladder problems after appendectomy. ?  Not that I'm aware of ?

Depends....: On how much scar tissue, ability and safety of laparoscopy approach, technical skill and experience of surgeon, and ability to get to, maneuver, identify anatomical structures through laparoscope. About 10% of lap approaches get converted to open at time of surgery- can't get there from here safely.

Highly Unlikely: It is quite common to do laparoscopic surgery on people with your prior operations. We take appropriate safety measures to try & anticipate the extent and location of your scar tissue; it rarely interferes with our operation to the point where open surgery would be necessary.  Of course, results vary based on the experience of your surgeon--ask them their "conversion rate".  Good luck!

Good: While some abdominal operations promote adhesions and scarring, both appendectomy and tubal ligation occur in the lower part of the abdomen, away from the gallbladder.
Most experienced surgeons  should be able to  perform another laparoscopic surgery, but with the understanding that the degree of difficulty will increase chances of having to do an open procedure.

Based on symptoms: Pains of gallbladder attacks, on the right side of upper abdomen while appendicitis, the pain is in the right lower abdomen.

Unrelated: Absence of the appendix or gallbladder have no effect on development of pancreatitis.

can a gallbladder and appendix be removed at the same time as a hysterectomy?

Accepted Answer

It's possible.: Usually different types of surgeons need to work together to perform these operations. A general surgeon does gallbladder removal as well as appendectomy, whereas, a gynecologist does a hysterectomy. Some gynecologist have privileges to do appendectomies as well.
