I am surprised: Your doctor did not give you any post op instructions. It really varies. With some patients i allow them to perform daily dressing changes the following day after the procedure and with others i just let them leave it on for a week until i see them back. It has to do with the comfort level of the patient. Just call your doc and ask what they wanted you to do.

Permanent removal: The nails can be removed and then a compound such as phenol applied to the nail bed.  This usually prevents the nail from returning.

removal of the big toe toenail, i have trauma due to it. what will happen if i don't get toenail removed in the future?

Nail will fall off: Your question is a little confusing, but i think you're asking what happens to your damaged nail if you don't remove it.  A new nail will start growing from the back (near the cuticle).  It will most likely grow under the damaged nail, ultimately forcing it to fall off--or it will kind of fuse and be two nails until the dead nail eventually grows out and you trim it off.  This takes 6-12 months.

i have corn on my toe and two small dots but they don't pain yet.i have had surgery for my left foot but i want the removal of corn without surgery now?

Palliative care: Any skilled podiatrist can  remove your corn without bone surgery painlessly. Unfortunately, it will return after some time. This can be done repeatedly until it comes back so quickly that you opt for surgery- which may be years until it worsens. I do not recommend corn plasters as they burn the skin and are fraught with complications.

Possible: Depends on many factors. If just after procedure some of the local could be the cause or nail was pressing against a nerve or doc hit the nerve while injecting or removal. See doc that did procedure.

Depends on severity: And treatment performed. Often you can return to work immediately, depending on what type of work activity you do. Sometimes may require a day or 2 off.

help, i can't stand the pain of shots in my toes. if general anesthesia isn't possible for toenail removal, what about an epidural?

Accepted Answer

Yes: An epidural or spinal can be used but both are overkill for a toe nail removal. The procedure takes only minutes and either the epidural or spinal will last a min of 1 hour.
If this is being done in a hospital the anesthesiologist can give a small dose of propafol let you dose off for a minute as the doctor injects the toes. That's how I used to do it.
