The virus is an h1n1 mix of genes from swine, bird, and human flu viruses. The symptoms are the same as any other form of influenza and treatment as well.

In some situations antiviral medications (Tamiflu, Relenza, Flumadine) may be prescribed within the first couple of days of symptoms to hasten healing or they can be used after flu exposure to prevent illness.

Aspirin, tylenol (acetaminophen) or aleve/motrin are useful for associated headache or fever.
