i'm 22 months out liver transplant due to "cryptogenic cirrhosis" now have stage 3 fibrosis with bridging. no hepc.  lupus. progression/prognosis?

Discuss with doc: Problems like these can only be correctly handled by your doctor in person.  He/she needs to listen to you, perform an examination and possibly run labs or other tests. That's the only way he/she can find out what's going on and what to do about it.

lab says normal liver ammonia is between 27-102.husbands is 108 and doctor put him on lactulose. has stage 3 fibrosis.why when ammonia not that high?

Intersting question : very interesting question. If you take 1/2 of healthy liver out surgically liver func will still be normal. Person with fibrosis and ammonia even though slightly elevated signifies significant loss of liver function. Please follow your physician's advice

Hoping so!: I'm going to assume that alcohol is the sole cause, and that he's been checked for hemochromatosis, Wilson's, and hepatitis B and C. If he does choose to stop drinking, having a loving and forgiving wife will be the most wonderful support he can have. Cirrhosis does regress some on achieving sobriety. Hopefully his mind is still basically okay. Wishing you both the best.

Nature of ultrasound: This is kind of subtle, and I'll try to explain as I'm a pathologist. Especially if your husband's disease is due to alcohol, all the little units of the liver are affected about the same, so ultrasound -- which lights up borders between areas of different consistency -- won't show a thing. This is actually good news. If I recall, he's sober now and I hope he recovers well.

On the lung?: gosh could be quite a lot for this. If it is stable over years, cancer is MOSTLY ruled out (sometimes cancer can develop in a scar). And lung diseases such as COPD, or other causes of lung hyperinflation cause the bottom to get squished. For that matter obesity can squish them from the other direction!

: Every case is different; it probably is not accurate to generalize to all myocarditis with or without fibrosis. Your cardiologist is the only appropriate source of advice for this question. Good luck.

: Yes, the fibrotic portion of any organ will lose its normal function. So, if a portion of the heart muscle becomes fibrotic that portion of  heart tissue (myocardium) loses the ability to contract effectively so the heart is weaker.
