Fibroadenoma: A fibroadenoma can look like a breast cancer which is also a solid lesion. Palpation and ultrasound may not be able to differentiate them. It calls for collaboration between a breast surgeon and the radiologist, in my opinion, to determine whether a breast biopsy is indicated.

Fibroadenoma: Fibroadenomas in the breast are firm masses and can be felt on inspection (palpation) and yes, can be seen on ultrasound. Usually, you don't need ultrasound to see them.
If you are talking about fibroids in the uterus (not fibroadenomas of the breast), yes they can be seen on ultrasound. Usually, they grow slow and can be multiple in number. They are benign growth and can cause excessive bleeding

Breast Fibroadenoma?: Breast Fibroadenoma is a benign condition and can be monitored without biopsy or removal unless it shows growth in size. You should check your breast once monthly for any change in size and also have your doctor do a breast examination every 6 to 12 months. Most fibroadenoma do not grow or may regress on their own as you grow older.

Keep following: It's common to have a normal biopsy one year and some benign stuff next year; you also know that the microscopic appearance of the tissue of the breast changes considerably over the course of the month. If something "appears fibroadenoma", get another pathologist's opinion -- fibroadenomas can be eliminated by freezing. Best wishes.

found a lump in my breast about the size of my finger tip 4 months ago. ultrasound was done & it was diagnosed as a fibroadenoma. recommended to repeat ultrasound in 6 months but what are my chances of breast cancer? im only 23, should it be biopsy?

Low risk: If you do not have  family history of early onset breast cancer, you have a low risk at your age. You appear to have been evaluated properly. Follow your doctor's advise about follow up care.

Better Safe Than...: Rarely, what is presumed to be a fibroadenoma is a sarcoma-like tumor (phyllodes tumor).  Therefore, if the tumor is growing on the 6-month follow-up study, excision will be recommended. Remember: common things happen most commonly. Chances are it will not grow and be of no concern.

Being scared: Most likely not. But the doctor who did the test was not sure and did the exact next right thing. Plan or do a biopsy.  The only thing to do now is to breathe and wait. The answer will come quick enough.

my latest mammogram was negative except for long-standing fibroadenoma rhs which was unchanged. ultrasound of right axillary showed focal cortical thickening up to 4 mm. they will rescan in six weeks. should i be worried?

: Cortical thickening of lymph node over 3 mm is considered concerning for malignant involvement. Rescan in 4-6 weeks sounds like a reasonable plan. I also would consult a breast surgeon to evaluate,advise&amp; follow you at this time.
