can being obese cause an enlarged spleen?  i was severely overweight, have fatty liver, but lft's are normal. so the liver seems to be functioning fine, wondering what could cause the spleen issue?

Yes: Non alcoholic fatty liver can cause portal hypertension which is a cause of spleen enlargement. Portal hypertension means that there is increased pressure and abnormal blood flow in portal vein system. Portal vein brings blood to the liver.

See your doctor.: Reduce your total cholesterol level.
Reach a healthy weight. If you need to lose weight, be sure to do so slowly (no more than 1 to 2 pounds a week).Quick weight loss from crash diets, surgery, or medicine increases inflammation and scarring in your liver.
Control diabetes and metabolic syndrome
Stop or cut back on drinking alcohol.
Exercise regularly.
See your PCP for a plan for the above.

when u are diagnosed with fatty liver can u still have liver function tests normal?

Yes: A fatty liver does eventually affect your liver function but if it is mild the liver function may still be normal.  Also if the fatty liver is severe and there is cirrhosis and the cells in the liver are not functioning the will not respond normally and will appear normal on the blood test even though the liver is not normal.

Not necessarily.: Usually there is some level of inflammation with NASH - usually seen with elevated enzymes.  Fat infiltration of liver is on a spectrum.  You have fatty liver - > then fatty liver w/ inflammation (nash) -> then fibrosis and scarring (cirrhosis).  Fatty liver by itself is for the most part harmless, but it can progress so good diet, exercise and cholesterol control is key.

u/s in 2008 and 2015 showed fatty liver.  how often should u/s and liver function tests be done to check on the status of the fatty liver?  thanks.

Yearly: LFT's and U/S of Liver should be followed to evaluate Liver function.

Liver injury from an: Anything that damages the liver can cause abnormal liver functions.Besides  viral hepatitis, excessive alcohol use can cause hepatitis...So can many different drugs like the statins used to lower cholestetrol.Then there are rare diseases like excessof iron storage from hemochromatosis and some enzyme deficiencies

Raised bilirubin : Gilbert syndrome is a benign condition that does exactly what you mention. No treatment is needed. I cannot advise you specifically without evaluating you in person

is 1.99 to high for bilirubin? the other is 0.28. i have fatty liver and poorly function gallbladder could this indicate cancer? please answer

Need more info: If total bilirubin (bil) is elevated, you need to find out what the direct and indirect bil is - there are benign reasons for tbil to be elevated, such as gilbert's syndrome.  Also ast, alt, alkaline phosphatase can provide additional information.  Fatty liver does not usually lead to increased bil, so you need to look for other reasons.  It would be unusual for only tbil to be elevated in cancer.

Fatty liver,jaundice: Fatty liver is a common condition seen in people who are overweight, .Mild elevation of bilirubin(indirect bilirubin) is usually due to a benign condition called gilberts syndrome.Fatty liver by itself rarely causes increase in bilirubin.Please see a gastroenterologist for further workup.

can low functioning gallbladder cause mild diffuse fatty liver? is it safe to have gallbladder removed having fatty liver or will liver be injured?

Not related: Fatty liver is not related to removal of gall bladder or its dysfunction. Most of the time fatty liver is due to nutritional , chemical ( drugs alcohol etc ) and viral diseases , if uncontrolled may lead to cirrhosis.
